Bob and I moved to
America from England 18
years ago. Bob was in
the Marine Corps (and
once a Marine, always a
Marine!) and we traveled
the country for a few
years, always welcomed
to each new home with
open arms.
I bred Irish Draught
horses
for many years, both
back in my homeland of
England and then here in
America....but nine
years ago, having
settled, we decided the
time was right for me to
fulfill a childhood
dream.
And that dream?
As a child in England I knew these
horses bred by the
gypsies and finally it
was time to have a Gypsy
Vanner of my own!
So after a long and
painstaking search we
found a Vanner
mare to add to our small
band of Irish Draughts.
Since then we have
discovered that Vanners
seem to exert "the chips
effect"
~ you can't have
just one ~
So back in '04 we found
another grand
type of mare...
And when she had a super
little filly?
Well, doubtless you can
imagine the rest. So then
we had three Gypsy mares
. I'm not
quite sure how that
happened, it certainly
wasn't my
intention...but the
chips effect is indeed a
powerful force!
I had probably better
not even mention that
Tansy had a long awaited
filly in 2008 which, of
course, I have to keep
since Tansy has never
had a filly before.
Just last fall we also
added the most adorable
little gelding to our
family and look forward
to many new adventures
with him.
All this from the
thought that I might
like to have a Vanner. Don't
think the same can't
happen to you!
Suffice it to say,
during the many decades
in which I have been
fortunate enough to have
lovely horses, I have
never been happier than
I am with these
creatures in my life.
They bring qualities of
peace and contentment
that are rare in this
busy, hustle-bustle
world. They can also be
outrageously funny to be
around. There's quite a
sense of humor buried
under all that hair! I
count my blessings every
day.

Lest we ever forget, we
are only ever 5 months
away from snow here in
Wisconsin!!
More
snowy Vanner pictures!
These little rascals are
paid to keep mice out of
the barn but it sure
looks like they are
sleeping on the job!

...Luckily someone
around here is awake!
This is my buddy, my
Newfie Summer.

Our beloved Summer
passed in early March of
09. R.I.P sweet angel.
