Hello, and a very
warm welcome to the
Gypsy Vanner Horses of
Harkaway Farm!
|
|

The Gypsy Vanner Horse
was created by the
Romani people of the
British Isles, and is
renowned for its truly
delightful temperament
and hard-working nature. |
|
It's easy to be drawn in
by the Gypsy Vanner's
glamorous looks, but
these horses have worked
for their living for
many generations. Up and
down the highways and
byways of the British
countryside, these
horses can still
occasionally be seen
pulling the colorful
wagons and carts of
their proud owners.

"Gypsy gold does not
chink and
glitter...it gleams in
the sun and neighs in
the dark" |
|
|
|
Bred by the Gypsy folk
(more correctly known as
Romani) to draw their wagons, Gypsy
Vanners have to be
strong, sensible, hardy
and thrifty. They are a
true draft breed, but in
a smaller package. |
|
Even now, when many Rom
families have
"modernized" to
motor-drawn caravans, or
taken to a more settled
life, the Gypsy Vanner
Horse is
still highly prized. To own a top quality
horse, or to breed the
"fair topper" that year is a source of
enormous pride (and
significant bragging
rights!)
We are the first Gypsy Vanner
breeders in the state of Wisconsin.
You'll find us in SW Wisconsin,
near
the IL and IA borders. Visitors
welcome...by appointment please!! |
